The purpose of the QTGSU is to provide a safe and supportive social space for graduate students at the University of Delaware (UD) who identify as part of the 2SLGBTQIA+ community (Two-Spirit, Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans, Queer, Intersex, Asexual, and other queer identities); graduate students who are questioning their gender or sexuality are also welcome. QTGSU seeks to center and support the needs of underserved graduate students on campus including Trans and Black, Indigenous, and other People of Color (BIPOC) in the queer community.
GOALS and OBJECTIVES
Provide a safe and supportive environment for queer graduate students navigating graduate school
Provide social opportunities for queer graduate students at UD
Build connections between queer graduate students across departments
Increase awareness, visibility, education, and support of queer graduate students on campus
UD currently has an organization for queer undergraduate students (the Lavender Programming Board) and an organization for faculty and staff (the Pride Faculty and Staff Caucus), but does not have an organization specifically for queer graduate students. This organization will provide a much needed space for queer graduate students to support each other in navigating graduate school as well as opportunities for socialization and networking.
QUALIFICATIONS FOR MEMBERSHIP
The members of this organization shall be currently enrolled full-time or part-time graduate students at the University of Delaware. Members of this organization should identify as part of the 2SLGBTQIA+ community or as individuals questioning their gender or sexuality. Graduate students become members through self-selection by joining the QTGSU email list and actively supporting the mission and principles of the organization
